After this year, you will be half way through your high school career.  Can you believe it?  If you ever have any questions, please ask.  I am here for you!  Most of you already know my rules, expectations, and procedures; however there are a couple of things I need to add.

Curriculum:

*Text—Geometry (McDougal Littell)…PLEASE KEEP THEM COVERED!!!

* The new Common Core Standards will be the focus of Geometry.  The new standards are listed in conceptual categories which are:  Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Modeling, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.  There will also be great emphasis placed on the 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice.  What you learn this year will carry over throughout the rest of your education here at EHS.

Grading Procedure:

Quarter                                                          Semester

Daily/Quiz—33.3% (1/3)                             Quarter 1—40%

Tests—66.7% (2/3)                                      Quarter 2—40%

                                                                        Semester Test—20%

Grading Scale:

Elkton has implemented a new grading scale this year.  The grading scale is uniform for grades K-12.  I have it posted multiple places throughout my classroom as well as on my webpage!

Grading Scale:

100        A+

99-96    A

95-92    A-

91-89    B+

88-86    B

85-83    B-

82-80   C+

79-77    C

76-74    C-

73-71    D+

70-68    D

67-65    D-

64-0      F

I will show you your grades on a regular basis, but be sure to keep track of your own grade in case mistakes are made.

Assignments:

Assignments are to be turned in on time!  You are now young adults and you must be RESPONSIBLE for YOUR work.  Cheating on any type of assignment will result in an automatic 0% (no points will be given for that assignment).  Make the RIGHT decisions.  I will do my best to help you out, but you must also help yourselves.  You will also be allowed to retake tests for a 65% (D), but you must make the effort to come in and make the arrangements to do so.

Late Work Policy:

You have one week from the due date to complete your assignment for a maximum of 50%.  After one week, your grade will be a zero.

Extra Help:

I am here for you!  If you need extra help, I am here at 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.  I do expect the assignment to be done when you enter the room!

Student Expectations:

1.     Try your hardest!!

2.    Be on time – allow me to teach and others to learn.

3.    Come to class prepared (book, paper, completed assignment, calculator…)

4.    Use only pencil on assignments (NO pen!!).

5.    Show all your work!

6.    Use appropriate language.

7.    Listen carefully and follow instructions the first time.

8.    Respect others, school, and personal property.

9.    Cell phones must be turned off in class.  I will follow school policy.

Tardiness:

Students will be considered tardy if not in the classroom by the time the period starts (tardy bell).  Tardiness will then be handled according to the student handbook.  I will tell you each time I count you tardy so that it doesn’t come as a surprise later on.

Classroom Behaviors:

All students must abide by the student handbook.  Appropriate behavior is always expected.  Misbehavior will be handled in the classroom unless certain actions, at my discretion, need to be dealt with immediately by the Principal.

Materials:

1.     Notebook for Geometry

2.    Ruler

3.    Protractor

4.    Compass

5.    Scientific Calculators (sine-cosine-tangent)

Netbook Usage:

Be sure to bring your netbooks to class.  We will not use them every day, but there are times in the math curriculum that they will be useful and I will tell you when that time is.  Otherwise please leave them under your desks or in your backpacks.  If you are using it when instructed not to, I will take the computer from you and you will be able to pick it up from me at the end of the day.

Absenteeism:

In the event that a student is gone for an illness or appointment, it will be the student’s responsibility to inquire about any missed assignments.  Please visit with me ahead of time if you know you will be absent or as soon as possible upon your return.  There is a policy on make-up work….you will have two days to get your work done for the first day you are absent, but then you will have only one day for each additional day you are absent.

If you know that you will be absent for a sporting event, be sure to turn in assignments that will be due for the day that you will miss BEFORE you leave.  Assignments missed while you are actually away participating in an event must be ready to turn in by the same due date as the rest of the class-NO EXCEPTIONS!
